Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have dismantled a suspected gunrunning syndicate in southern Taraba State, arresting two suspects and recovering arms and other items during a tactical operation in Wukari Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Wukari, was based on credible intelligence about the activities of illegal arms dealers in Byepi Village, along Tsukundi Road.

In a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo, the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, identified the arrested suspects as Buba Idi (55) and Isiyaka Yusufa (29).

According to Oni, “A tactical operation led to their arrest and a subsequent search led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.”

The suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their swift and professional execution of the operation. He noted that the mission is part of ongoing efforts to stem the spread of illegal firearms and strengthen security across Taraba State.

General Uwa also called on residents to continue supporting the military and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information to aid proactive operations against criminal elements.
