The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Taraba State University chapter, has announced that it will continue its strike action until all demands are met, aligning with agreements granted to other university unions.  

This decision was revealed in a press statement issued on Saturday by Comrade Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka, SSANU State Chairperson and JAC Chairman, following an emergency congress meeting held on January 16, 2025.  

While acknowledging efforts by the state government to address some issues, the union emphasized that unresolved matters include unpaid salaries for September and October 2022, withheld portions of salaries from June, November, and December 2022, as well as unpaid promotion arrears from 2016 to 2020.  

The union also rejected a N30 million offer for Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA), demanding instead that 50% of the outstanding N692.94 million be paid immediately, with the remaining half settled within three months starting February 2025.  

Additionally, SSANU criticized the application of outdated promotion criteria, calling for adherence to the 2020-approved guidelines for non-academic staff promotions. The union further urged the state Ministry of Tertiary Education to direct the university management to complete outstanding promotion arrears payments and finalize work on the university’s pension scheme.  

While commending Governor Agbu Kefas and the Ministry of Tertiary Education for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage and peculiar allowances, the union maintained its resolve to continue the strike until all demands are fully addressed.  

This announcement comes after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, suspended its one-month strike following commitments from the state government.
