Gunmen ambushed the family of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas on Thursday along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area. The attack targeted the governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, and his sister, Atsi Kefas, while they were traveling.
Amid the chaos, a police officer assigned to the family accidentally shot Atsi Kefas while attempting to fend off the assailants. The incident, reported by security expert Zagazola Makama, highlights the escalating bandit activity in the area.
Troops responded promptly, preventing a greater tragedy by rescuing Jumai and Atsi Kefas and evacuating them to safety using an air ambulance. Atsi was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention, but her condition remains undisclosed.
Authorities recovered the family’s vehicle at the scene along with an empty magazine and passenger luggage. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as security forces work to address the growing threat of banditry in the region.
