A 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Muhammed, from Gashaka LGA in Taraba State, has been arrested by operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command for attempting to take his own life.

In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect was apprehended on September 29, 2024, in Mayo-Belwa town, Mayo-Belwa LGA, after he attempted to commit suicide.

SP Nguroje explained that Abdullahi had climbed a 330KV high-tension electricity tower along the Yola-Jalingo highway, threatening to end his life.

The statement further detailed: “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police deployed operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mayo-Belwa to the scene.”

Fortunately, Abdullahi was rescued and taken into protective custody. He is currently under investigation and will face charges for attempting to commit suicide.

SP Nguroje reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, including preventing self-harm and protecting property.

According to reports, Abdullahi resorted to climbing the tower due to severe hardship he is experiencing. In a video viewed by our correspondent, Abdullahi could be seen speaking to onlookers from atop the tower, blaming the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his difficult situation.

He explained that his decision to attempt suicide was driven by the lack of assistance in alleviating his struggles.
