The Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue has warned individuals to divert government-generated revenue to private accounts, urging them to stop or face legal consequences.

The Board's Chairman, Brigadier-General Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd), advised the public to be cautious of fake tax collectors and to ensure they pay their taxes only into the state’s Treasury Single Account.

Governor Agbu Kefas inaugurated the Board on June 19 with a mandate to improve the state's revenue collection systems.

In just over a month since taking office, Brigadier-General Faransa disclosed that the state's internally generated revenue is being compromised by individuals issuing illegal receipts and diverting taxes to private accounts.

He warned those involved in such activities to cease immediately or face prosecution, emphasizing that the Board is committed to eliminating revenue leakages and consolidating all internal revenue collections into the government’s Treasury Single Account for the benefit of the citizens.

Faransa also urged the public to be vigilant against fraudulent tax collectors and to avoid paying taxes in cash, instead directing payments to the state’s Treasury Single Account.

Furthermore, the Board Chairman announced that starting from the first week of August, there will be a strict inspection of vehicle documents across the state. Vehicle owners without updated papers will be prosecuted in mobile courts as part of a broader strategy to enhance security.

The Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue reassured taxpayers that all collected revenue will be used to implement government policies and programs that directly benefit the citizens.
