Taraba State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Nicholas Namessan, has announced the state's readiness for the Federal Government’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

Namessan made this disclosure while interacting with the project's national officials, who visited the state to assess its readiness for the project's implementation.

The Commissioner revealed that Taraba State has allocated 1000 hectares of suitable land with access to markets and electricity to support the federal government in implementing the project.

“Taraba State has 50-60% of the livestock in the Northeast and the largest concentration of livestock in an area, particularly on the Mambila Plateau. Taraba State is the third largest state in Nigeria in terms of landmass, has the longest stretch of the River Benue, and our livestock centers are situated within the state and not on the borders, unlike other states. This means our livestock are homegrown and not from neighboring countries,” Namessan explained.

He further emphasized the state's potential in meeting the country's livestock needs. “As a state government, we strongly believe that we have the potential to supply all the country's livestock needs, especially when it comes to beef and dairy products. All we need is to properly harness these potentials, and this is what the L-PRES project presents. That is why we are not taking it lightly,” Namessan asserted.
