The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of Adamu Tanko, the chairman of the Gassol Local Government Area Hunters’ Association in Taraba State, for allegedly selling an AK-47 rifle to a suspected terrorist.
According to the army, investigations revealed that the rifle sold by Tanko had previously been recovered during an anti-terrorist operation in Plateau State. This information was shared by the Nigerian Army on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
The post stated, “In a separate operation in Taraba State, troops, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Alhaji Adamu Tanko, chairman of the Gassol Local Government Area Hunters’ Association, for selling an AK-47 rifle to a suspected terrorist. The investigation revealed that the weapon was recovered during a joint operation against terrorists in Boki Lamba, a border town with Plateau State.”
In addition, troops involved in counterterrorism operations in Borno State have killed Abu Rijab, a notorious terrorist commander, during an offensive in Bula Daloye, Bama Local Government Area. This operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and mobile phones, and led to the surrender of eight terrorists and their families in Gwoza LGA.
The army stated, “In a series of coordinated operations nationwide, Nigerian Army troops have neutralized a notorious Boko Haram commander and other terrorists. Numerous terrorists and their families have surrendered due to sustained pressure. Troops have also apprehended several criminal suspects and recovered arms and ammunition.
“On August 17, 2024, an offensive operation was launched against a terrorist enclave in Bula Daloye, Bama LGA, resulting in the death of three terrorists, including wanted Boko Haram commander Abu Rijab. The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and mobile phones. Additionally, eight terrorists and their families surrendered in Gwoza LGA. Troops also apprehended two suspects in Konduga LGA with 52 bags of illicit drugs intended for terrorists.”
In Plateau State, troops arrested two suspects and recovered weapons.
The post added, “Troops in Plateau State responded to distress calls about suspicious movements by criminals in Rikkos, Jos North LGA. They arrested two suspects and recovered a fabricated rifle and mobile phones with images of various arms and ammunition.”
