Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has expressed his administration's support for the media. Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, he made this known during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Radio Nigeria News Summit at the Patient Event Center in Jalingo.

Governor Kefas highlighted the pride in hosting the summit, themed "News Production in a Transitional Media Landscape," in Jalingo, a city renowned for its hospitality and rich cultural heritage. He emphasized the crucial role of news production in an era of rapid technological advancements, shifting audience expectations, and evolving journalistic practices.

"This summit is timely as we navigate significant changes in news production," he stated. "The rise of digital platforms has transformed how news is gathered, reported, and consumed. Traditional boundaries have blurred, expanding the responsibilities of news producers."

Governor Kefas stressed the importance of adhering to core journalism principles—truth, accuracy, and fairness—while also innovating to connect with audiences. He acknowledged the media's power in shaping public opinion, informing governance, and strengthening democracy.

"We are committed to supporting initiatives that foster a robust, independent, and responsible press," he declared. "The news we produce today will shape tomorrow's narratives, and it's essential these narratives are truthful, balanced, and reflective of our shared values."

He urged summit participants to critically address the challenges of the transitional media landscape, leverage new technologies while maintaining professional integrity, and meet the demands of diverse audiences without compromising journalistic standards.

"Let's reaffirm our commitment to delivering news that empowers, educates, and unites our people," he concluded, thanking the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for hosting the event in Jalingo.

In his remarks, FRCN Director General Mohammed Bulama expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for hosting the summit. He praised Taraba State as "Nature's Gift to the Nation" and described the governor as "God’s Gift to Taraba State."

Bulama emphasized the importance of adapting to the digital age in news production. "Digital technologies and social media have reshaped the media landscape," he noted. "Our responsibility is to navigate this transition with vision and resilience."

He highlighted the need for accuracy and credibility in fast-paced news environments and the role of data analytics and artificial intelligence in understanding and engaging with audiences. Bulama also stressed the importance of trust, dialogue, and transparency in news production.

"Engaging with our audience involves building trust and fostering dialogue," he said. "We must create platforms for conversation, welcome diverse opinions, and practice transparency."

Addressing the economic challenges in sustaining quality journalism, Bulama called for innovation in financing, creative partnerships, and digital monetization strategies.

He underscored the importance of continuous learning and ethical standards, announcing plans to upgrade the National Broadcast Academy's curriculum and facilities. "We must invest in training our journalists and reinforce our commitment to integrity and fairness," he stated.

Bulama concluded with a call to seize the opportunities presented by the evolving media landscape, promising to provide the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and conducive work environment for FRCN staff.

"Let's remain steadfast in our commitment to truth and each other," he urged. "The future of news production in Nigeria is bright, and through our collective efforts, Radio Nigeria will become the most credible and preferred source of news and entertainment."

He thanked Governor Kefas and the people of Taraba State for their hospitality and partnership, looking forward to continued collaboration in serving the nation.
