The Tiv community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba state has dismissed media reports credited to Chief of Jibu Chiefdom, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmoud, claiming relocation of Dugwer residents to a new site to resolve a long-standing land dispute.

Zaki David Gbaa, the Ter Bali and Chairman of the Tiv Traditional Council in Taraba, refuted the claim in an interview, deeming it diversionary and intended to mislead people and hinder the investigation ordered by Governor Agbu Kefas.

Allegedly, Kur Jibu, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmoud, on Monday handed over new land in the Utsuwa-Daa area of Bali to Dugwer people, aiming to settle the land dispute between Tiv and Hausa communities.

However, Chief Gbaa highlighted that the Governor had instructed the council Chairman to compile a report on all land issues and submit it for further action. He questioned the Kur Jibu's defiance to the Governor's directive.

He clarified that the disputed land, ruled in favor of the Tiv community by the Court of Appeal in 2019, spans over 500 hectares, contrasting with the less than eight hectares allegedly allocated. He emphasized the need for peaceful resolution without escalating tensions.

Gbaa also noted mounting tension in Zuddai community due to farmland seizures, urging swift action from Governor Agbu Kefas for peaceful resolution.
