A man has been sentenced to prison for his refusal to pay for the consumption of five buckets of burukutu and two plates of pepper soup. The defendant, identified as David Donald, also allegedly took two plates of fish pepper soup without compensating the owners. These actions are in violation of Section 302 of the state Penal Code Law.

David, who works as a driver, faced charges of cheating and appeared before the Upper Area Court 4 in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state. Following his guilty plea, the court presided over by Ibrahim Musa, ordered his remand at a correctional center in Yola.

David, originally from Karin Lamido in Taraba State, committed the offense on February 21, 2024, at a local establishment in Yola. Police reports indicate that he ordered five plastic buckets of burukutu and two plates of fish pepper soup. However, after consuming the items, he attempted to leave without settling the bill, leading to his apprehension and subsequent arrest.

The prosecuting police officer, Sgt Kabiru Abubakar, informed the court that the defendant deceitfully obtained the beverages and pepper soup, totaling N6,600 in value, from Felicity Sunday and Linda Ali. The complainants reported the incident to the police, accusing David of refusing to pay for the consumed items.
