The corpse of Late Rev. Father have been laid to rest admist tears and pains.

It was a sad moment for the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, the Bishop, Priests, Religious leaders and Lay faithfuls as Late Father Tanko was buried at the at the Priest Cemetery at the Cathedral.

The service for the burial which took at the Catholic Cathedral, Mile 6 Jalingo, Taraba State had it attendance dignitaries from many sphere of life and endeavors.

Dignitaries include the governor of Taraba state represented by Head of Service Taraba State, Arch Bishop of Kano Arch Diocese, Chairman CAN Taraba Chapter, Rev. Jirape, representative of Aku Uka of Wukari Prof. Anthony Barau.

Rhapsodi Affos Blog (RAB) correspondent at the burial ground reported that over 200 Priest and Religious where present from all around Taraba and other parts of the country as well as from Ireland.

The sermon was taken  by His Lordship, the Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Charles M. Hammawa. Father Charles took his reading from Daniel 12:1-3, Thessalonians 4:13-18, Matthew 25:1:13 respectively.

He addressed the deceased as a "Man of Peace" who lived peacefully with people around him.

Fr. Hammawa thanked all those who came out to commiserate with the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo and the immediate family of the late Rev. Fr. David Tanko who was gruesomely murdered on 28 August, 2019

He said, the constant and incessant destruction of lives and properties in Taraba State and the country at large needs to stop.

He prayed that violence and hostilities will end by the death of Rev. Fr. David Tanko and bring a lasting peace to the State.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and also prayed for the conversion of the assailants and all those who collude directly or indirectly towards the continuation of the crisis.

He said such acts of gruesome murders must be addressed and spoken about by all those at places of authority.

He was saddened by the fact that Ministers of the Gospel and churches are being killed and burnt contrary to the Geneva Convention.

Fr. Hammawa called on people to respect the Ministers of the Gospel and no matter what, try not to harm them as they preach to all and not to one set of people.

On a final note he called on the leaders to do the right thing and also do the needful. He also urged the security forces not to allow herself to be used by politicians and wealthy citizens to oppress the poor and downtrodden.

He however called on the youths to shun violence, murder and not allow themselves be used as thugs since later in life, those who used them will address and regard them as hoodlums, miscreants and criminals.

In the same development the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, started a dialogue for the Tivs and Jukuns to coexist together and sheath their swords.

It could be recalled that RAB reported that Rev. Father Tanko was killed and set ablazed by yet to be identified bandits on his way to Takum for a peace meeting in regards to the lingering Tiv/ Jukin crisis.
