Terror has been unleashed on innocent peace-
loving people in some communities in Gashaka
Local
Government, located in Taraba’s Central zone by
unknown gunmen, suspected to be insurgent
Fulani herdsmen in their numbers on Monday.
This has left over 44 persons dead, 5 injured, 6
missing and over 100 displaced women and
children.
The attack started with the case of rape by the
armed bandits which the lady resisted, leading to
unleashing of mayhem on entire Taraba rural
communities.
This is coming at the wake of proactive security
measures by the Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson
Ishaku to curtail the influx of suspicious persons
from many Northern States who have suddenly
embarked on massive migration to rural parts of
Taraba State.
Taraba rural communities has witnessed a number
of civil disturbances occasioned by attacks on
farmers by Fulani herders, causing many families
to flee their homes prompting strict measures by
security agents.
The recent killings will certainly be a major setback
to current effort by the government to resettle
IDPs to their homes and to their normal activities.
The affected communities are Domi where 8
people were reported dead and 6 children missing.
Angai where over 20 people were reported killed
and 5 injured. Others are Maisuma where 9 people
were reported to have been shot and killed and
Fali where 7 people were reported killed.
The attack has displaced over 100 women and
children who are taking refuge in Mayo-selbe,
Kungana and Garbabi.
It will be recalled that in February, based on
security reports, some traditional rulers were
suspended by Governor Darius Ishaku for actions
capable of breaching peace in their communities
such as selling off lands belonging to IDPs to
migrants.
This violent attack again is a further proof of an
agenda to rob Tarabans of the peace they have
enjoyed among States in the North-East. The
Government, by virtue of its proactive approach
will certainly take stiff measures to nib the
activities of insurgents in the bud.
