Despite dwindling resources, the Federal
Government has stated its commitment to the
completion of the multi-purpose Kashimbila dam in
Sardauna Local Government Council of Taraba State.

The dam has the capacity to generate 400 megawatts
of electricity, a water treatment plant capable of
supplying 60,000 cubic meters of water to about
400,000 people, irrigation facility of about 2,000
hectares and an airstrip.

This was made known yesterday by the Minister of
Water Resources, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, during a
working visit to the dam with the Chairman, Senate
Committee on Water Resources, Ubali Shittu.

The minister, who expressed satisfaction with the
level of work, reiterated the Federal Government's
commitment towards the completion of the project.
In his words: "The Federal Government will not allow
the Kashimbila multi-purpose dam project to fail
because a lot of investment has been involved in it."
He assured that all projects inherited by the Federal
Government from the past administration including
Kashimbila dam would be completed.
The state governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, urged the
Federal Ministry of Water Resources to ensure supply
of potable water to towns and communities in
Taraba.

He also appealed for immediate payment of
compensation to communities whose properties
were affected during the erection of electricity
transmission lines and water from Kashimbila dam.
The governor, who played a vital role in the project
while serving as Minister of State for Power during
the last administration, lauded the commitment of
the current government towards completion of
ongoing projects nationwide.
