A suspected cable vandal was electrocuted while attempting to remove armored electric cables from a transformer at the Mahmoud Ribadu Square in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a press statement issued on Sunday. He revealed that the incident occurred early in the morning.
“Today, 19th January 2025, the Adamawa State Police Command discovered an unidentified individual at an electric transformer near Ribadu Square around 6:00 AM. The individual was attempting to vandalize electrical cables when part of his body came into contact with live electricity, resulting in a severe electric shock and serious injury,” Nguroje stated.
The unconscious body was evacuated to a hospital for medical examination and further action.
Nguroje added that an investigation is ongoing to uncover more details and possible recoveries. He also conveyed a warning from the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris Dankwabo, urging residents to avoid tampering with electrical installations and to report any suspicious activity around transformers immediately.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.
