Residents of Shavoh, a neighborhood in Jalingo, Taraba State’s capital, are in a state of panic following reports of armed gunmen patrolling the area on Sunday night.  

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the unidentified individuals, armed with dangerous weapons, were spotted monitoring homes during the early hours of Monday, leaving the community deeply unsettled.  

Residents described the gunmen as moving stealthily through the streets, heightening fears for personal safety and the security of their neighborhood.  

“We no longer feel safe even in our own homes,” a resident lamented, reflecting the widespread anxiety gripping the community.  

In response to the alarming situation, community leaders and residents have appealed to the state government and security agencies for immediate intervention. They urged authorities to investigate the reports and implement measures to prevent potential criminal activity.  

Local leaders have specifically called for increased security patrols to reassure residents and restore peace. “The situation demands immediate attention,” said a community elder. “We need the assurance that our lives and properties are secure.”  

When contacted, Taraba State Police Command spokesman Abdullahi Usman said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area had not yet reported the development. However, he assured that the Command would provide updates as soon as more information is available.  

Residents remain hopeful for swift action to address the unsettling presence of armed individuals and to ensure the safety of their community.
