In celebration of World Sight Day 2024, the Nigerian Optometrist Association (NOA) Taraba State Chapter organized a vision screening program for schoolchildren under the theme, "Love Your Eyes, Vision for Children." The event, held at Model Primary School in Jalingo, provided pupils with free eye screenings and eyeglasses.

Dr. Grace Ahams Akor, Chairperson of the NOA Taraba State Chapter, emphasized the importance of regular eye checkups, noting that good vision is crucial for overall health. She highlighted that childhood eye injuries can have serious, long-term consequences, stressing the need for preventive care to safeguard children's futures. 

The program, according to Dr. Akor, will be extended to schools across the 16 Local Government Areas of Taraba State. She reiterated that children are the future leaders, and protecting their vision is essential.

Mr. Jonah Panturo, General Manager of Taraba State Television (TTV), also encouraged early detection of eye issues for better protection and called on the media to increase awareness about eye care and protection.

Dr. Abe Agbu, Director of Public Health at the Taraba State Ministry of Health, praised the NOA for providing free eye services to pupils and advised beneficiaries to take care of their eyeglasses. Meanwhile, Dr. Onwanu Lorita, a member of the NOA Board of Trustees, and Dr. Angela Oleka, NOA Taraba State Secretary, affirmed that the program will continue and reach more schools across the state.

They appealed to the government and stakeholders to support the initiative for its sustainability.
