The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) provided starter packs to trained youths in Taraba on Thursday.
According to Tribune Online, the NEDC distributed 20 renewable energy kits, 10 efficient stove fabrication tools, and 10 charcoal briquette production kits to the recipients.
Mr. Bashir Hammajoda Nguroje, the NEDC Coordinator for Taraba State, stated during the presentation in Jalingo that this initiative is a strategic effort by the federal government, through the commission, to combat unemployment.
Nguroje emphasized that the beneficiaries were selected based on merit and received training aimed at helping them become self-sufficient and future employers.
“After five days of training in various skills, the commission decided to provide starter packs to the youths to support their journey towards self-reliance. The commission's goal is to reduce youth unemployment and empower them to create jobs.
“Over the course of the five-day training, we focused on renewable energy (solar), charcoal briquette production, and energy-efficient stove fabrication. These tools are meant to empower the trainees to become independent and job providers for others.”
“We urge the beneficiaries to view this support as a transformative opportunity and to use the starter packs wisely, contributing to NEDC's mission of reducing unemployment."
Nguroje also added that the commission will monitor the activities of the beneficiaries to ensure the tools are used effectively for their intended purposes.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Bashir Isa Yerima and Miss Hadiza Jauro Salihu expressed their gratitude to NEDC and pledged to use the opportunity to help create jobs for other youths.
