In a significant security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have apprehended the owner of a vehicle involved in arms smuggling in Taraba State. According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, the arrest was made on Sunday in Wukari Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Mallam Abubakar Adamu, was arrested alongside an accomplice, Mallam Isah Ibrahim. The arrest follows a follow-up operation after troops recovered an abandoned vehicle and an AK-47 rifle in Bantaje town.
"Through diligent investigation and intelligence gathering, troops successfully tracked down and arrested Mallam Abubakar Adamu, the owner of the abandoned vehicle, and a key suspect in criminal activities in the area," Olubodunde revealed.
During interrogation, Adamu confessed that he had sent the driver, who remains at large, to transport the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari. The suspects were arrested in Mutum Biyu, and both are currently in custody, undergoing further interrogation.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the commander of the operation, praised the troops for their dedication, stating that the arrest underscores their commitment to ensuring peace and security in Taraba State.**Troops Arrest Vehicle Owner, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Taraba**
