AN OPEN LETTER THE CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (CAN), TARABA STATE CHAPTER

9th February, 2024.

Rev. Magaji Jirapye,

The Chairman,

Christian Association of Nigeria,

Taraba State Chapter,

CAN Secretariat,

Jalingo.

Sir,

DEMAND FOR EXPLANATION AND APOLOGY

The above subject matter refers.

We Concerned Mumuye Sons and Daughters, on behalf of the entire Mumuye Christians and Mumuye Nation, hereby write to demand an explanation as to the recent uncouth and unethical manner in which the CAN, Taraba State Chapter under your leadership has been running the affairs of the CAN.

Refer to the publication by CAN signed by the CAN Secretary, Bishop Manasseh Silas Rifore, wherein the leadership of CAN withdrew support for Hon. Innocent Jabayang Umar, a Christian, for one Sadiq Abbas Tafida, a Muslim candidate in the ongoing bye-election for Member, Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency.

Be notified that the said publication and your endorsement of a Muslim Candidate in place of a Christian candidate is contrary to the Constitution and objective and vision statement of CAN in Nigeria which provides thus:

An Objective: To act as a liaison committee, by means of which its member churches can consult together and when necessary, make common statements and take common actions. Vision Statement of CAN: To be the unifying voice of all Christians in Nigeria, amplifying their views, and interests and enhancing the spiritual development of all followers of Christ.

We call for an immediate explanation for such a hasty decision by CAN and demand that the said publication and endorsement be retracted in the next 24 hours failing which our complaint to the National Body of the Christian Association of Nigeria should be acted upon. Kindly, find attached our letter to the CAN National Secretariat.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Comr. Ezekiel A. Hammangabdo

Youth President, MCDA
