Dr. Alheri Micah Bulus, the President Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Taraba State has described the Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Center Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu (MBBS, FMCP, MNIM, ASCON) as a phenomenal leader.


He made the eulogy while celebrating her 54th birthday in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital stressing that she is a phenomenal leader who has lived an exemplary life and has taken the Federal Medical Center Jalingo to an enviable height being a visionary leader.


Dr. Bulus seized the moment to buttress some of her giant strides since her emergence as the Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Center Jalingo, Taraba State in 2020.


He applauded Dr. Aisha for making Federal Medical Center Jalingo a conducive & friendly environment to practice through renovation of the entire hospital, construction of state-of-the-art Intensive care unit, new ultra-modern theater, new neonatal complex, new dialysis unit/complex, new radiology complex, new isolation unit, new accident and emergency complex, new conference hall and resident quarters.


Regarding staff welfare, he further hailed her for her relentless efforts in ensuring the conversion of all temporary staff to permanent employment, massive recruitment of staff, prompt promotion of staff, training and retraining of staff, conversion of hospital data from paper to digital, commencement of residency training (for doctors' specialization).


Rhapsodi Affos Blog (RAB) reports that Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu was born on 15th September 1969 to the family of Alhaji Shehu Mohammed from Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.


She attended Capital Primary School, Yola between 1977 and 1981 and Federal Government Girls College, Yola, between 1981 and 1986 both in Adamawa State for her secondary education, before proceeding to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for her School of Basic Studies in 1986 to 1987.


Dr. Aisha obtained her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State in 1995. She went for the Residency Programme at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital leading to the award of Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria specializing as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2008.


She also obtained certificates in some schools outside the country; International Health Consultancy from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine,  June 2012. Certificate in Management of Human Immunodeficiency Virus from the University of Washington in 2018. Good Clinical Practice for Conduct of Lassa fever trials on interventional products in Nigeria WHO/NCDC Lagos December 2018. Obtained Certificate in Leadership and Management in Health, from the University of Washington in September 2017 and Global Health Programme Management University of Washington between July and September 2019.


Upon graduating from the University of Maiduguri College of Medical Sciences as a Medical Doctor, the young Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu began her Medical career as a House Officer at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital between 1995 and 1996 after which she went for her NYSC at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu Yobe State in 1996. Being a Consultant Gastroenterologist she was appointed a Consultant Physician at the Federal Medical Center Jalingo in 2008. 


Before her appointment as the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo on 25th March 2020 by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, she had actively been serving in various capacities since her first appointment both within and outside Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo among which are:- 


Technical Team Leader Roche/Taraba Hepatitis Access Project in 2017, Deputy Head of Clinical Services from April 2014 to March 2020, Head of Internal Medicine Department, March 2011 to 2020.


Anti–Retroviral Therapy  Programme Site Coordinator,  FHI in Collaboration with Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo - January 2008 to 2020, Chairperson Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) FMC, Jalingo 2008 to 2019, Chairperson Quality Assurance Quality Improvement Team 2009 to 2015 Jalingo, Taraba Zonal Office FHI.


Consultant for HIV/AIDS Strategic Framework Plan Development United Nations AIDS (UNAIDS) in Nigeria - 2010 to 2015 to mention a few.


Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu has attended sixty - six (66) Courses, Seminars, Workshops, and Training between 2010 and 2021 and is a recipient of numerous awards such as the Award of Excellence for outstanding performance as ACTU Chairperson in FMC Jalingo 2015.  


1st Female Consultant Physician Award by Taraba State given by Women in Colleges of Education North-East Zone (WICE) 2013, Merit Award for diligence and dedication to duty given by Management of Federal Medical Centre Jalingo 2006, Best Behaved Student Award Federal Government Girls College Yola, NYSC National Award Federal Government of Nigeria 1998, NYSC State Award Yobe State Government, Meritorious Service Award by Taraba State Medical Students'Association, Award of Excellence by the Association of Resident Doctors FMC Jalingo 2022, Courageous and Progressive Leadership Award Taraba State Association of Resident Doctors, Award of Excellence by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), among others.


Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu is happily married with three children.
