NYSC @50: Scheme honors supporters in Taraba

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, in Taraba on Saturday honored key supporters of the scheme in the state.


Mr. Anthony Nzoka, the Taraba state NYSC Coordinator noted during the award gala night in Jalingo that the idea was in commemoration of the scheme's 50th anniversary and a show of appreciation to individuals who have in different ways supported the scheme in the state.

 

Nzoka explained that the awardees were selected based on their distinguished services and kind gesture for the NYSC and Corps members serving within their communities.


While commending the awardees for their courage and distinction in humanitarian services that NYSC in Taraba is a beneficiary, the coordinator disclosed that the Corps in its efforts to ensure unity among Nigerians and engendering grassroots development through community development service, has carried out free medical outreach in some communities that benefited over 8,000 indigent citizens as well as assistance to Orphanage homes.

He called on Tarabans to join the NYSC in assisting orphanage homes in the state.


 

He also said the scheme has embarked on a tree-planting campaign to avert climate change and improve its economic benefits to the state.


Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion Hon Hassan Bappa, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development who is also the chairman NYSC governing board in Taraba state, expressed that the achievements of the scheme in the last 50 years have remained relevant in the Nigerian society and believed it would still maintain the relevance for the unity and development of the country.


Meanwhile, Dr. Philip Duwe and Barr. J.T kataps who were also honored as Grant pillars of NYSC in Taraba, expressed dissatisfaction over Nigeria elites who have gained the core value of the NYSC but refused to assist the scheme to improve its services.


While thanking NYSC in Taraba for the honor, the grant pillars appealed to other Nigerians to see the scheme as a hub for national unity and assist in their little ways to improve its standard.
