Tragedy struck as two persons were reportedly killed and several others injured after a clash that erupted between farmers and herders at Wanzami Gwomu community, a suburb of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.


Hon. Markus Hamidu, Chairman of the council confirmed the incident to our reporter. He said as the farmers approached their farm and discovered a herd of cattle grazing on their farm, they tried to make an inquiry on why the herders should do so.


According to him the herders attacked the farmers and killed one of them. In reprisal, the farmers also launched an attack, killing a herder.

“A resident of Gwomu went to his farm to harvest his crops only to discover that the herders were grazing on his farm and in the process of trying to inquire why it should be so, a herder reacted by attacking the farmer and his relations and in the process, killed him,” said Hamidu.


“While retaliating, the farmers also succeeded in killing a herder. Two dead bodies were recovered from the scene.


“I have spoken with the Divisional Police Officer of Karim Lamido, we hired a vehicle to convey their (the victims’) remains, and thereafter the relations of both victims claimed he corpses for burial.”


On the Binnari community attack, the LG Boss stated that it was a calculated plan by kidnappers to arrest the Commander of the Vigilante Group in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Abubakar Dankabawa.


He said Abubakar Dankabawa has been aggressive in the fight against kidnappers who have been terrorizing the people.


According to the chairman, the security operatives have been mobilised to the scene of the incident which is a border community between Taraba and Plateau States.


Hamish commended Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku for constituting the Peace and Dialogue committee to look into the Munga-Fulani herders conflict for peace to be maintained.


The council Chairman, advised people of Karim Lamido to be lovers of peace by reporting to persons to designated authority in order to complement the giant efforts of Governor Darius Ishaku on peace for development to thrive.
