A University Don and the Head of Department Peace and Conflict studies In Taraba State University Dr. Julius Ngoma has called for collective peacebuilding among inter-religious organizations and government agencies to end the reoccurring communal clashes and inter-faith conflict experienced in some parts of the country.


Dr. Ngoma stated this in an interview with newsmen in Jalingo the Taraba state capital.


He said most of the inter-faith conflicts and communal clashes experienced in some parts of the country were a result of poor sensitization among religious and community leaders who do not provide adequate information for non-violence approaches to conflict situations and mutual respect for one another.


 “Building peace together among cultural line, inter-faith and political affiliation is very paramount for actualizing our individualistic and collective goals, we must seek to build the culture of peace through peaceful approaches to issues”


The head of the department noted that to achieve a peaceful society the job cannot be left to the government alone and its agencies, stressing that all hands must be on deck to ensure a safe and peaceful society.


“Since the conflict, wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed with peace Education, awareness, sensitization in all spheres of life. Peacebuilding is not just for government and its agencies but for all the citizens,” he said.


He called for collaborative efforts with religious leaders, military, security agencies, civil society organizations to support the efforts of the federal and states governments in fostering peace in the country.


Dr. Julius Ngoma also noted that the Taraba State University Peace and Conflict department is providing relevant knowledge to its students to be peace ambassadors in the society to complement the efforts of the government.
