Tragedy struck on Saturday as at least two persons were reportedly killed and several injured after a church collapsed in Takum LG of Taraba.

Rhapsodi Affos Blog (RAB) gathered that the church which was identified as Holy Ghost Church, located in Abed Pave community, a suburb of Chachanji town of Takum Local Government, collapsed after a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours.

We further gathered that the church congregants usually use a primary school as their worship center prior to the collapse.

The  chairman of Takum LG, Hon. Shiban Tikari confirmed the incident to our reporter. Hikari said according to the report made available to him, no fewer than two persons lost their lives in the process.

A former Supervisory Councilor of Chachanji ward, Mathew Adega, who also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the two victims are male and female.

Adega, who could ascertain the numbers of persons that sustained injuries at the time of confirming the incident, however, agreed that several church members left with one form of injury and the other.

Another source who spoke to Rhapsodi Affos Blog also added that the injured congregants have been rushed to a medical center where they're receiving treatment.

In addition to the two persons confirmed to have died as a result of the accident, several worshippers were also said to have escaped the scene with serious injuries.
