Director Sports of the State Sports Council George Shitta has applauded the Nigeria Cricket Federation for introducing cricket to Taraba State, Rhapsodi Affos Blog reports.


Speaking,during a ceremony which took place at the State Sports Council in Jalingo,the Director Sports said this is the first time the game was introduced to join other sporting Associations.


George Shitta,assured the Nigeria cricket Federation of his readiness to support them amidst the abundant talents that abound in the State.


The Director,expressed happiness that the cricket Coach would be stationed in the State which is a good development.


He assured the Nigeria Cricket Federation of Governor Darius Ishaku support at all times to the game since he is a Sport lover and active member of the State Golf Club.


George Shitta,emphasized that the introduction of cricket to the State for the first time is another plus to the rescue mission of Governor Darius Ishaku.


Commenting,Representative of the Nigeria Cricket Federation Coach Obinna Ohurogu,explained that the essence of introducing cricket to Taraba State is to engage pupils from Primary,students from Secondary and tertiary institutions on the game.


He promised to engage games masters of various Schools by devoting the first five to six months for training for them to be in a good stead.


Ohurogu,called on parents to allow their Children to take part in cricket.


Cricket was introduced and first played in Nigeria by British Colonial Administrators in the nineteenth century.


The first recorded International Cricket match involving Nigeria was against the Gold Coast now Ghana in nineteen zero four.
