The Nigerian Army have called on Social media influencers to uphold fairness, truth and a sense of national security in their reportage or posts on the social media space. This charge was given during the 13th edition of the Social Media Influencers Seminar in Jalingo, Taraba State of Nigeria.

The event which was organized by the Nigerian Army Department of Civil-military Affairs in partnership with Security Affairs was said to serve as a platform to interact, discuss and share ideas on how better bloggers, online journalists, and social media influencers in the spirit of patriotism can continue to promote peace and security in Nigeria. The event which is being rotated across the country was said to be an initiative that started in 2018 in PortHarcourt Rivers state of Nigeria by the then Chief of Army Staff and now Ambassador Tukur Buratai and is currently being sustained by the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, following its successes in winning the hearts and minds of the civil populace while also serving as a forum for disseminating the CIMIC activities and success of the Nigerian Army to the general public.

In an interview with the CEO of Security Affairs, the co-organizer of the Social Media seminar Amb. Austin said this initiative started in 2018 in order to continuously engage, bloggers, online journalists, and social media influencers on their strategic role in promoting peace and security in Nigeria knowing fully well that whatever they post and how they post whatever they post online can either promote peace or have a negative effect on our national security.

Also the two Resource Persons: Mrs Sheba Tayo-Garbson Head of Department Mass Communication Federal Polytechnic Nekede, and also Hon. Nelson Len the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Taraba State Governor and President of the Taraba State Bloggers Association both educated the participants on their important role in the society and how well they can manage this role in upholding the truth, fairness and national security.
