Taraba Team Disqualified From 20th National Sports Festival Over Inability To Produce Player’s COVID19 Results

Despite getting to the venue on the arrival date, Team Taraba will not take part in the 20th National Sports following failure to produce Covid-19 test results.

It was gathered that the state didn’t undergo the compulsory tests in their state before embarking on the journey to the Games venue. The Local Organizing Committee had on April 1st instructed that all States must produce the results of Covid-19 tests of all the contingents.

Taraba athletes and officials who failed to produce the test results are the first casualties in the 20th National Sports Festival with many states set to face the same fate.

Reacting to the development, a top official of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) who is on ground where Covid-19 test is being conducted at Hall 2 inside the University of Benin said he won’t comment on the disqualification of Taraba State because he was tired.

The official who failed to disclose his identity said; “As you can see, I am so tired of talking about such issues now. Come tomorrow and I will let you know whether Taraba State is disqualified from the Games because of Covid-19 or not”

The contingents who have traveled for ten hours or more before getting to the venue couldn’t get accommodation and food to eat as the organizers insisted that they must undergo the compulsory Covid 19 test (even after producing results of tests they did in their states) before accommodation can be given to them.

As at 2:00 am, athletes and officials are stranded sitting under the trees with their heads wrapped in between their laps.
