The Taraba State governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku has called on the federal government to reconsider the creation of federal, state, and local government police in the bid to curb the rising insecurity ravaging the country. 

Ishaku expressed worries and displeasure over the security situation across the country and how insecurity has ravaged the nation, he called on the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, look into the situation by establishing state and local government police.



Gov. Ishaku made this known while speaking to journalists in Jalingo, Taraba state capital. The governor said that the federal government alone cannot curb the menace of insecurity as it has been shown that it has woefully failed in that aspect.

According to Ishaku, the United State of America (USA) where Nigeria copied their constitution from has LG, state, and FG police respectively. He further explained that, where there is a security challenge, the LG police comes in first and if it's beyond its powers, the state police come and if it's beyond their powers too, the FG police come in and it supersedes them all, then the army is invited. 

He said the army is supposed to be the last resource after every security apparatus has failed but he stressed that it's unfortunate that the army aisthe the first resource and that's evident because the Federal Government has failed in its responsibilities to protect its citizens.



Governor Ishaku said that the nation’s security architecture has to be broken down into levels to enable security situations to be effectively managed and called on the National Assembly to look into the constitution with the view of amending it immediately.

He said that “One thing I won’t stop saying is, there must be a split of the security architecture of the country that is to say,  til the security outfits are split possibly into Federal,  State, and LG police there still won’t be a solution to this insecurity cking our country”. 

“Taraba is an agricultural state and with the nature of insecurity in the country an average Nigerian won’t risk his life by putting his agricultural might into practice either by going to the farm only not to return”.


“When I traveled outside the country to Hong Kong, you hardly see the police or military outside, but here, you see police vans and military patrols yet there’s kidnapping,” he said.

Lamenting on the security challenges even in Taraba, he said it's unfortunate that the Chairman of Ardo Kola was abducted and gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen which is evident of insecurity, he also lamented the abduction and murder of the late member represent Takum1, Hon. Hosea Ibbi, who was murdered in 2017.

The governor, therefore, called on the federal government, all politicians both APC, PDP, and those that are in positions of power to seriously look into this issue of security and tackle it finally.
