Taraba State government in collaboration with the federal government will  establish a model ranch and training centre in the state in line with the State’s ‘Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranching Establishment Law’ for the  benefit of farmers and herders.

This was disclosed by the Taraba State commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. Danjuma Adamu yesterday in Jalingo, Taraba State capital during a monthly briefing on the activities of the government.

The commissioner said that Governor Darius Ishaku-led administration in Taraba State has designed a road map that would give priority to agriculture which includes animal husbandry.


He said that Governor Ishaku has given priority to agriculture to boost output, so as to ensure food security and increase income for farmers, adding that he has also encouraged mechanized farming through the provision of tractors to farmers at subsidized rates.

“Furthermore, animal husbandry is not left out, Taraba climate provides favourable conditions for animal breeding”.

“To avoid the perennial farmers and herders clashes, the government in collaboration with the federal government will establish a model ranch and livestock training centre in line with the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranch Establishment Law,” he said.

The commissioner insisted that the Taraba Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranch Establishment Law which was passed into law by the State House of Assembly is still in force and should be obeyed by the farmers.

He stated that after the establishment of the model ranch and livestock training centre, the state would fully implement the law to stop the farmers and herders clashes in the state.
