Musa Affos (Rhapsodi)
Several farm lands have been submerged and others destroyed after a heavy downpour in some parts of Jalingo, Taraba state capital.
Rhapsodi Affos Blog RAB reports that the rainfall which started in the early hours of Friday morning led to the flooding of many houses and farmlands. Rhapsodi Affos Blog RAB reporter who toured some parts of the metropolis while it was raining found out that in some areas the lack of drainage has immensely contributed to the flood. While in some areas dumping of refuse led to the blockage of gutters and thus the flood.
At Mayo Renewo Crescent area of the metropolis towards Nukkai site all in the city it was discovered that though there are drainages but the downpour was much which filled up the gutters and the water had to invade so many houses and even rooms thereby destroying some of their valuables and tendering then homeless temporarily.
A farming area around Nukkai area of the metropolis has also been submerged by the heavy downpour, the farming area which is predominantly used for rice farming and maize farming were partly uprooted by the rainfall while the others remained submerged.
Speaking to our reporter, one of the resident, Mr. Kefas lamented that that has been their plight each time there's heavy rainfall. He called on the state government to come to their side and construct larger drainages for passage of water. Another resident lamented that a few years ago the Fadama two which is WHO assisted had been helpful but it's been long that drainages were erected.
An aged woman who couldn't disclose her name to us due to the agony we met her in said, the COVID19 pandemic has subjected the people to untold hunger and hardship yet the little farming they went into is being ravaged by the rain.
