The Tivs in Taraba have the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for neglecting citizens in Taraba despite the renewed crisis in the area.
This accusation was made after Tiv chieftains met in Abuja to discuss the communal crisis that claimed lives in Taraba.

This accusation, according to the Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the Northwest, Rev John Joseph Hayab, is not true. He recounted how the association had intervened in the conflict between Tiv and Jukun.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa, he said:

”I think the person who made that allegation has forgotten.CAN leader Pam has visited the area, he must’ve forgotten.”

But, a Tiv chieftain also in an interview with the BBC Hausa, emphatically stated that CAN has neglected them even after their people were killed in the conflict.

He claimed that CAN only intervenes when the people involved in the crisis are associated with politics.

He said;
“But the association has not come to us. The conflict is claiming lives, going to Bali and other places.   The authorities are not doing much to end the communal crisis.”
