COVID-19: Police In Taraba Intercepts Truck Of Alamajiri From Gombe


Taraba state police command on Tuesday intercepted a truck full of beggars (Alamajiri) who were coming into Jalingo Taraba state capital from Gombe state.

The set of 27 Almajiris where intercepted at a police check point at Road Block, a major check point in the heart of the state capital, some of the travellers have been alleged to have escaped to various areas in Jalingo.

Leader of the police patrol team, ASP Galinde Wabii who spoke to LEADERSHIP said, the interception was a tip up from a good Nigerian who saw a truck loaded with strange people believed not be citizens of Taraba state.

“I got a call from the commissioner of police directing me to rush with my team to Roadblock area of Jalingo to intercept a truck loaded with strange people, amid the fear of Corona virus



“This people are from Gombe state and they said they are indigenes of Taraba.

“They said they were coming back to their state Taraba, now that Corona virus has entered Gombe”

They are 27 in number and i am directed to take them to the NYSC camp isolation centre”. The police patrol team leader explained.

Driver of the truck, Saidu Isa however told newsmen that he left Potiskum, Yobe state on Monday and meet his passengers in Gombe to convey Taraba.

Saidu claimed the passengers were tested in Gombe before proceeding, and both results proved negative.

Residents of the area who were there at the time the travellers were being offloaded, alleged that many of them have entered the town service Keke NAPEP and left to their destinations while the truck driver denied the allegation.


It will be recalled that Taraba state had earlier last month, ban inter-state travel in fear of the deadly global pandemic while the intercepted travellers were immediately taking to the NYSC camp isolation centre.
