Fear gripped residents of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, following a report that one of the 130 persons being quarantined for coronavirus at the NYSC orientation camp allegedly escaped from the centre.

It was reported that the escapee was arrested by locals and taken back to the quarantine centre.
Some of the people being quarantined at the centre told journalists that they were not properly fed.

But the state Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the COVID-19 Task Force in Taraba, Innocent Vakkai, said he was surprised the people were complaining of hunger as the government had made adequate provision for them.

“We have done our best, including adequate security for the quarantine centre.

 “I am surprised to hear that one person allegedly escaped from the centre. We will investigate what exactly happened,” he said.

The committee disclosed that only one out of the eight persons with confirmed cases of COVID-19 was in a critical condition but was responding to treatment.

Vakkai urged the public to continue to observe the basic precautionary measures to prevent coronavirus.
