One person has been shot and a staff of UNICEF beaten to coma as youths and police clashed in Karanti Village of Gashaka LG on Wednesday.
A source who pleaded anonymity told Rhapsodi Affos Blog RAB that the incident happened in Karamti village of Gashaka LG of Taraba when men of the Nigerian police force were touring the village to ensure adherence to the lockdown order.
According to our source, Wednesday is the market day of Karamti village and men of the Nigeria police stormed the market to ensure the rule is properly followed. Thereby closing shops and also stopping vehicles from entering the market. However the youths of the village seem not to be comfortable with the order and revolted into stoning the vehicle of the policemen.
Rhapsodi Affos Blog also gathered that, one of the policemen shot his bullet in the skies to scare away the youths but to his dismay they kept stoning them and stoned one of the officers. As gathered by our source, one of the policemen shot at the youths which inflicted severe injuries to one of the youths.
We further gathered the youths became more fierce at the police and narrowly escaped. As at time of filing the report, there is tension in the said village but men of the Nigerian army, their traditional ruler, SS boss have gone to calm down the situation.
In a telephone call with the state police public relation officer, DSP David Misal, he told Rhapsodi Affos Blog RAB reporter that he is yet to be communicated about the incident and should be checked upon in a few minutes.
Recall, we reported that Taraba state government has declared total lockdown as part of its measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
