Worried by indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, youths in the town have introduced a weekly voluntary environmental sanitation.
The youths, under Jalingo Youths vanguard, have cleared heaps of refuse in different locations within the metropolis as part of efforts to clean the town.

The District head of Jalingo, Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur, said the initiative was laudable and urged them to sustain it.

He said indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Jalingo metropolis had serious health hazard and environmental problems.
Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur explained that there was need for reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation in the state in order to keep towns and villages clean.

In his address, the chairman of Jalingo Local Government council, Alhaji Nasiru Bobboji, said indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the metropolis was worrisome and commended the youths for embarking on the environmental sanitation.
He said people needed to be told about the health hazards associated with dirty environment and urged residents to ensure proper disposal of refuse.

The chairman commended the youths for initiating ‘keep Jalingo town clean programme’ and assured them of his council’s support to achieve its desired objectives.

The leader of the youths, Musa Muhammed, said they were worried over indiscriminate dumping of refuse in different parts of the metropolis which informed their decision to embark on voluntary weekly sanitation exercise.
