The Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Jalingo and District Society Mr Gabriel Olayinka, who is also the Chairman of Taraba Business School has disclose that Taraba State University accountancy programme is one of the Best in the Country. Addressing news men in Jalingo while displaying the result of the two students who are currently in 200 level accountancy students of the University that just qualify as Accounting Technician AAT after passing the three stages of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Accounting Technician Examination popularly called ATS.

Titus Nathaniel Avyoma and Abdulaziz B Abdulhaman are part of the 10 students who are currently on the District Society Scholarship scheme to write the ATS examination, the district had in 2018 Introduced a scholarship scheme in which students of the University how are able to make a CGPA of 4.5 and above in their 100 level are giving a fully funded scholarship to write the institute ATS examination.



He explained that with this, the two students who are also potential first class students become they still maintain a CGPA of over 4.5   can proceed to the professional stage level of the ICAN examination and can qualify as Chartered accountants before the completion of their undergraduate programmes at the University.



The ATS programme allow students to start the Institute examination at the Technician stage with their SSCE results and to proceed to the professional stage upon the completion of the programme. He called on all students undergoing Accountancy programme in all the tertiary institutes in the state to embrace the programme as the programme is very reach and will enhance their performance in school and is the shortest route to becoming a Chartered accountant, who are currently very few in the state.

He commended the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University and the Bursar of the School for their effort in Improving the accountancy programme in the school. He disclosed that the University has been able to secure two major accreditations of NUC and ICAN and  5 Chartered accountants are currently Lecturers at the University.

Mr Olayinka said that two graduates of the University wrote the Institute professional Examination at the last examinations in May and passed the skill level at one seating and are currently preparing to write the finals of the ICAN examination this November that will qualify them as Chartered accountants, the  effort he describe as laudable which the district has already acknowledged at the Investiture ceremony of the 2nd Chairman and Award night organised recently in Jalingo in which the two Principal officers of the University where awarded the prestigious ICAN merit award.

The Chairman called on the University Management to urgently implement some of the recommendations  the District handed over to the Vice Chancellor during the recently Courtesy visit of the District to the University, some of the suggestion the District want the University to adopt to improve the accountancy programme of the School include the adoption of  the ICAN Mutual cooperation agreements that will allowed the graduates of the school to write the finals of ICAN professional examination to qualify as Chartered accountants, and the need for the University to partner with the District on the ongoing Scholarship scheme for the Students of the University among other recommendations
