The Lau community in Lau local government area of Taraba state has appealed to Federal and Taraba state governments to reconstruct the road linking the area to Jalingo the state capital and other parts of the state.

The call was made by  the District Head of Lau,Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Lau in an interview with North-East Trust.

He said the road, which links Lau, Karim-Lamido local government areas with the state capital and some parts of Adamawa and Gombe states has been in state of disrepair for many years.

According to him the road, which is the only link to the entire people in the community is very vital to socio/ economic development of the area.

The community leader explained that the road has been abandoned for years despite its importance to thousands of people residing in Lau, KarimLamido. Parts of Gombe, Plateau and Adamawa states.

Alhaji Abdullahi stated further that many culverts and small bridges on the road have collapsed causing hardship to motorists plying the road.

He said motorists spend three hours on the road from Lau to Lankabiri, a distance of about 35 kilometers.
He said the that lack of good road is also hampering economic activities of the people.

He said traders are no longer coming to buy farm produce in the area which compels farmers to sell their produce at a giveaway price especially during rainy season when the rains make it more difficult to access.
“Our farmers find it difficult to bring out their produce to the markets because of lack of good road and as a result they are not getting good prices for their commodities,” the community leader said.

Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Lau, said the area has potentials for agro-allied industries adding that a tomato industry was established in the early 1980 in Lau and now Dangote has also established sugar cane plantation in the area.
