PRESS CONFERENCE BY YOUTHS IN TARABA STATE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF COMRADE UDI ADAMU.28.6.019.
Youths in Taraba state have in one voice condemned in whole approval by the Federal government for Ruga settlement in some Local government areas in the state.
We describe this coined idea as a misplacement of priority in the face of poverty, insecurity, armed robbery, banditry and increasing unemployment facing the society.
Youths in the state maintained that the Ruga settlement scheme is a threat to the cordiality existing between all tribes in the state positing that most Fulani herdsmen troubling the state are alien tied with the ulterior motive to grab the land of the original inhabitants.
In respect of the above and the fact that the Federal Government keeps emphasising that these settlements are to help mitigate the kidnappings and killings by herdsmen one now wonders how would government allow foreign hostile elements to settle in states like Taraba,Benue,Oyo,Ebonyi and others ignoring core northern states like Katsina,Borno,Kano,Sokoto,Kebbi and more.
We stand unshackling and unwaveringly with the Taraba State government on the Ranching law which is the best way to settling crises between herdsmen and farmers in the state as accepted to by people of goodwill across the globe.
Furthermore there is a suspicion on the scheme because if benefits that the proponents are quick to highlight like potable water, uninterrupted electricity, high employment, vast revenues why was Katsina state the home of the President not inclusive.
The truth is that these people know the long term risks involved in situating these settlements in their native domains and would not risk the potential future conflicts during their retirement in their hometowns between the herdsmen and their indigenous kinsmen.
Sufix it to say that if these aggressive outsiders already known to forcefully take over ancestral lands from the legal indigenous owners, then what do you think the outsiders will do with similar ancestral lands that are forcefully taken using the instruments of government and given to the same outsiders free of charge?
In the event of any future request by the indigenous community for the outsiders to vacate the lands, the outsiders would never relinquish those lands and will rather turn hostile towards the natives with the aim of defending the lands that the government officially dashed them.
Nigerians are too big to be fooled, let's cement our differences for the overall good of all than allowing ungodly policies to divide and turn us to slaves in our blessed land.
Youths in Taraba state remain law abiding and would do anything within her powers to support government genuine programs and polices that are geared to emancipating the people out of the bondage of poverty and oppression.
We called on the state governor Architect Darius Dickson Ishaku to enforce the Open grazing and ranching establishment law 2017 for the sake of peace and harmonious living.
In reminiscence we salute the boldness of our elder statesman Retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma who once called on Nigerians to rise up and defend their land because of underpinning plans at ethnic cleansing as reiterated by many top military brass.
Amidst recent crisis rocking the state,Youths are advised to be good citizens by engaging in meaningful ventures and support the administration of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku who loves peace and harmony that has translated to achievement recorded so far.
Thank you all.
