Ahead of the Local Government polls, the Ndola community in Kurmi local government area of Taraba state has called on Governor Darius Ishaku to sustain rotational system which was adopted among the ethnic groups for the position of local government chairman of the local government council.

The United Kurmi Youth for Democracy Forum made the appeal in a letter it sent to Governor Darius Ishaku.

In the letter, which was signed by Secretary of the forum, Mr Auta Emmanuel, the community said the stakeholders in the local government have agreed, many years ago, to rotate the chairmanship of the council among the Ndola, Tigun and Ichen ethnic groups that make up the area.

According to the letter all the two ethnic groups have had their turns and now it is the time for Ndola ethnic group to occupy the chairmanship position in line with agreement.

The Ndola community, according to the letter, has already agreed to allow Bente/Galea ward to produce candidates for the position and the process had started.
The Forum is, however, not happy to see some people parading themselves as being anointed by government to contest the position.

The community, therefore, appealed that a level playing ground should be provided to the aspirants in order to guarantee free and fair election in the area.

The Forum commended the governor for awarding contract for the construction of Maraban_Baissa_Abong road as well as the creation of Ngada development area.
“The road when constructed will open up the difficult terrain of the area and boost economic and social development.’’
