At least four people were feared killed on Monday at Jootar in Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State as militia suspected to be of Jukun stormed the border community .

The incident , according to a local source occurred around 4 : 00 a. m . when the people were still sleeping .

“ They came shooting indiscriminately and burning down houses in the process .
“The militia came from Wukari in Taraba State fully dressed in military uniform and operated within one hour in which they burnt down houses, killed four persons,” the local , who did not want to be identified said .

Efforts to get the Chairman of Ukum Local Government , Hon Tor- tyokaa Ibellogo were not successful but his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy Godwin Iwanan confirmed the incident .

“The attack on Jootar is rather unfortunate. Benue State is not at war with Taraba State . So , the Jukun militia attacked Jootar , a town in Ukum LG in the early hours of today leading to the death of at least four people .

Benue State Police Command confirmed the attack on Jatoor .
The spokesperson for the command , Catherine Anene who spoke to our correspondent on telephone said that some hoodlums attacked the community .

“The Divisional Police Officer in Ukum said that some hoodlums invaded the community and burnt down houses but I have not been briefed if there is any death.
“ The Ukum DPO have gone to the community and will get back to the command when he returns to base ,” Anene said .
