Taraba: Herdsmen\farmers sign ceasefire accord.

A call for calm have agreed on as the warring herders and farmers in Kona communities of Jalingo, Taraba state have signed a ceasefire agreement to end fight and killings.

The Herdsmen\farmers crisis which lasted for about a week resulted in the death of not less than 12 people and destroyed properties worth millions, also leaving many displaced.

The peace meeting had in attendance the state commissioner of police who reassured the warring sides of protection during this year farming season. Leaders of Kona and Fulani communities as well as some royal fathers were part of the ceasefire agreement reached at the Taraba state police command.

It could be recalled that the recent herders/farmers crisis in Jalingo had escalated following recruitment of mercenaries by the herders, but the Police is stepping in between the two warring sides and urging them to give peace a chance in their domains and promising adequate protection for both sides.

Farmers expressed optimism of a bumper harvest if the ceasefire accord will be strictly adhered to.
