The social Democratic party SDP candidate for member house of assembly constituency, Zanau Maikasuwa has Salvage the plight of some communities in Ibbi local government as he provides clean drinking water for 5 communities.
Iyaka, Sabonlayi and Masu communities of Sarkinkudu has been battling water crisis for a very long. They have been without clean and safe water for home and other uses. Zanau Hassan Maikasuwa the SDP candidate for the Taraba State House of Assembly Ibi constituency has come to their aid by drilling tube wells for them that is providing clean and safe drinking water for the thousands of people in Sarkinkudu district.

In an exclusive chat with Rhapsodi Affos Blog (RAB) team, Maikasuwa revealed that
The people of Iyaka and Masu share same source of water with cattle who trample inside it and most often bury the ponds proving the water. At the peak of dry season the people walk long distance to get water which is not hygienic and safe for home use.

We have succeeded in drilling a tube well with clean for a community that use to drink water from a pond that cattle also drink from that turns muddy. When the season gets drier, they dig the area to get water and stay late in the night just to get water for their survival.
Friday and Lele came in from Jalingo to help drill the tube well. We have just found clean water and news has since gone to the community.
Total cost of this project is N50k.
There are more communities that need this assistance.

"*Why I so excited about this simple water project*
One reason I am so excited about this simple water project that was conceived and executed within two days with the lowest budget possible, is the fact that it will solve the following problems:
1. Herdsmen/farmers conflict prevention:
the community told me how cattle come to disrupt the water and there presence leads to faster drying of the water source as well as making the pond get buried more often. When this happens, they have to dig up the place to get water because that's the only source of water at the peak of dry season.
While we were there, the herdsman came with his cattle and when they were about chasing him away, I told them, no need, you now have clean water, the cattle can now enjoy the pond water.
Do you also know that such simple technology can be used to create cattle drinking points for cattle by digging up and construct a drinking trough or a pond with a solar pump that provides water for the cattle and Fulani community? But that's not a project for now.
2. Prevention of water borne diseases:
Moving forward, children and adults within those communities will say bye bye to all nyama nyama water borne diseases to a more healthy life.
3. Business opportunity
This initiative is a source of livelihood for many water entrepreneurs in places like Jalingo and Yola, where those who operate the pump charge a fee before fetching the water which is also used to fuel and maintain the water pump as well as income. Also, other water vendors use push trucks, some tricycle trucks that contains 40 jerry cans to supply water to the community.

A simple maths of the tricycle truck containing 40 jerry cans says that at N20 per jerry can, you get N800 per trip. With 10 trips a day, that's N8,000. Doing that for 6 days a week times 4 weeks equals to 24 days. Therefore, 24 days a month multiply by N8000 a day equals to N192,000. Who pays you that in government?
A tricycle trucks of N550,000 can be paid off in 6 months.
Well, unfortunately in government, this simple stuff gets forever to lobby into budget and then get approval for and huge monies allocated to a contractor that brings a huge rig and drill a borehole install overhead tank that most times are abandoned and many here in Sarkinkudu have never had water pump into them. I tell you the truth, the solutions to our many problems are just simple, somehow some people make it look sophisticated and unattainable.
