With presentation of staff of office to nine newly appointed chiefs by governor Darius Ishaku,the  state now has 56 top grade traditional rulers.
North -East Trust report that the state has six first class chiefs and they include Aku-Uka of Wukari, Dr.Shekarau Agyo, who is also the chairman of the State Council of Emirs and Chiefs.

Others first class chiefs are Emir of Muri, the Kpanti Zing,the Gara of Donga ,the Lamdo Gashaka and Chief of Mambilla.
The second class chiefs are the Chief of Mutum Biyu, the Lamido of Gassol, the Chief of Lau, the Chief of old Muri and Chief of Dakka.

Others are Chief of Bali, Chief of Wurkum, Chief of Kwaji and Chief of Kona.
There are also 40 third class chiefs across all the  16 local government areas of the state
Governor Darius while inaugurating the newly appointed chiefs warned that he would sanction anyone of them who allows breach of peace in his domain.
He urged them to encourage peace and unity among their subjects and report suspicious movement to security agents.
In his address the Permanent Secretary Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Yero, urged them to unite their subjects and ensure peace reigns in their domains.
Responding on behalf of the new chiefs, the Chief of Jen, Alhaji Ismaila Agwaru, thanked the governor for appointing them to lead their communties.
The new chiefs are Alhaji Ismaila Agwaru, Chief of Jen, Mallam Zakari Musa Chief of Kashinbilla, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar Chief of Bantaje and Mr Garasheya Danasabe Chief of Rafin Kada.
Others are Mr Ismail Maiwuya Chief of Ichen. Kurmi, Alhaji  Umar Buban Yala Chief of Kwaji and Mr Enock Tanko Tabena Chief of Ndola.
