Barely a few days after he indicated his desire to not only secure a Grammy Award nomination for his ‘Black Times’ album but to win the prestigious award, popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has made the nominees list.
Seun, who is the son of Afrobeat originator, Fela Kuti, was nominated in the best world music album category for ‘Black Times’ alongside his Egypt 80 band.
He is expected to compete with Fatoumata Diawara, Bombino, Soweto Gospel Choir, and Yiddish Glory for the award.
The ‘Black Times’ album was released in March and it earned him his first ever entry on the Billboard music charts.
The 2019 Grammy nominations were announced on Friday morning, December 7, while the Award ceremony is scheduled to hold in February next year at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
