YOLA – About 134 members of the dreaded cult Group called Yan Shila have surrendered their weapons in Adamawa State to the Depart of State Security (DSS).
The group, who is responsible for many murders and head hunting in the state where forced to surrender as the combination of DSS and Mobile Police have mounted a manhunt against them in the state.
The Yan Shila cult members, who are usually armed with dangerous weapons, have been terrorising residents of the town by snatching their handsets, gang raping women, snatching tricycles, motorcycles and killing their victims by chopping off their heads.
They are also known for attacking women and snatching their handbags in a broad day light and if they resist such women are taken away and gang-raped.
Some of the weapons surrendered included axes of various kinds, sharp knives, cutlasses and bullet cartridges.
One of the suspects who renounced their membership and who gave his name as Aliyu was picked by the police in the state. While speaking Aliyu said, “initially we were in car wash business but the borehole we were using got spoilt and we had exhausted all efforts to ensure the reactivation of the borehole so we had no option but to engage in the act.”
He regretted their actions and vowed not repeat it again, just as he called on the youths who are in the group to renounce their membership and surrender their weapons for peaceful coexistence.
In a remark at the venue where the cult members renounced their membership, the District Head of Jimeta, who is also Dan Isa Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Baba, who represented the Lamido Adamawa, expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the village heads of Demsawo for exposing the youths to surrender their weapons and renounce their membership of the group.
The royal father enjoined other village heads within Jimeta District to key in into the steps taken by the village head of Demsawo for peace to reign, adding that a strong committee will be set up to be headed by the village head of Demsawo to ensure compliance of riding the domain of miscreants.
Baba vowed to ensure that miscreants no longer exist in his domain and called on parents to cooperate with the move for peace to reign in the area.
He thanked members of vigilante group and Chusal for their rendering humanitarian security services in the area and urged them to sustain the spirit.
