The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has
approved the establishment of its office in Jato-
Aka, a border town of Benue State with
neighbouring Taraba in order to check irregular
immigrants and suspected foreign herders behind
insecurity in parts of the state.
The intention of NIS was contained in a letter
written to the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom
by the Comptroller-General of the Immigration
Service, Muhammad Babandede, which stated that
the approval followed the governor’s request for
an office in the area.
Babandede who commended governor for his
commitment to ending insecurity in the affected
areas, assured that the Service was making
adequate arrangements to form a Special Border
Patrol Squad to combat activities of illegal
immigrants and herders.
The Comptroller-General further pledged the
cooperation and support of the Service to the
state government to enable it achieve its target of
guaranteeing peace and development.
