to Taraba State government, Distinct Chambers, have said the state
Governor, Arc Darius Ishaku’s convoy did not cause an accident on
Airport Road as reported by this medium.
In a letter demanding for the retraction of the story published in City News on October 27, 2016 with the headline: ‘Accident victims demand compensation from Taraba governor’, Distinct Chambers said the story was false and aimed at tarnishing the image of the governor.
The letter which was signed by Ikenna Azubuike said Distinct Chambers were acting on instructions from Taraba State Liaison Office, Abuja.
“It is pertinent to note that this story published by Daily Trust Newspapers has been subjected to series of correspondences between the law firm of Festus Keyamo Chambers (representing the said Miss Zuleha Omeneke) and our chambers. The governor’s convoy plied the Airport Road late evening of July 24th 2016 and not early hou
rs as opined in their letter. Neither the ADC of the governor nor any member of the convoy was aware that any incident of the nature described in your publication ever occurred.
“It is our opinion that Miss Zuleha may be referring to another convoy that is different from the convoy of the Governor of Taraba State whose convoy plied the Airport Road Abuja around 8: 30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on the said date as aforesaid on their way to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
“Your hurried publication has caused our client serious embarrassment and brought the name of the governor into public opium and disrepute,” the letter further said.
Meanwhile, as at the time the story was published, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Sylvanus Giwa, did not pick calls placed to his mobile phone neither did he reply to a text message asking for official comments on the incident.
