Acting on communication from Governor Darius
Dickson Ishaku, the Taraba State House of Assembly
has extended the tenure of the 16 local council
chairmen, billed to elapse tomorrow, by three
months.
Invoking Section 7 of the Local Government Law, the
governor had appealed to the lawmakers to grant the
extension. The Guardian learnt that the development
was becoming a norm at that tier of government as
similar approvals had been granted in the recent past
during the lifespan of the last administration in the
state.
The council chiefs with political ambition were,
however, advised to resign 30 days before the polls.
The advice became imperative following a motion
moved by the member representing Ngoroge
constituency, Bishir Mohammed.
The Speaker, Peter Abel Diah, subsequently directed
the Clerk of the House to furnish the governor with
its decision. He, however, emphasised that the
extension was the last for the beneficiaries.
Once more Congratulations and Goodluck to many
who will aspire for the Executive of same office.
