Taraba state athlete, Umar Abubakar, has won the
first medal for Taraba state at the ongoing
National Youth games taking place in Ilorin, Kwara
state.
The dogged Umar Abubakar got the gold in
Taekwondo.

Taraba athletes who had a poor preparation for
the games remain hopeful of medals in areas they
have a stronghold, like Badminton, wrestling,
athletics and Lawn tennis.

challenges which ranges on the lack of kit for
training for the games.
Some athletes are also finding it difficult to eat the
meal prepared from the central feeding
arrangement which excludes officials at the
games.

in the past, the central feeding encompassed both
athletes and officials but wondered why officials

He emphasized that Nigeria might be passing
through an economic recession but it should not
take its toll on the games, as it is an avenue to
groom young talents for the future, hence the need
to expose and get it right at this level.
