The Taraba State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour
Congress Comrade Peter Gambo has called on the
State Government to guard against the issues of
Godfatherism, favouritism and political interest in
the proposed recruitment of workers into the State
Civil Service.
Comrade Peter Gambo Made the call while
answering questions on the lifting of the embargo
on employment into the State Civil Service.
The NLC Chairman lauded the State Governor
Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku and his Executives for
coming with such a recommendation but
expressed fear that it should properly be guarded
so that the exercise will not be hijacked for
political reasons adding that the recruitment
should be done on merit to achieve its purpose.
According to him, only those that have
professional certificate should be recruited into
the various positions or vacancies to move the
State Civil Service forward.
He said in the past, politicians have been
submitting names of their candidates and
neglecting the intelligent ones that have nobody in
the society to support them.
Speaking further, the NLC Chairman also backed
the resolution of government to sack those that
have been working with statements of results over
the years without their original institutional
certificates and also quickly called on those
affected to collect their certificates.
The NLC Chairman also stated that agitation of
Nigerian workers for review of salary is a step in
the right direction because the eighteen thousand
minimum wage cannot longer stand the market
force because of the high cost of leaving in the
country and other family responsibilities.
He expressed appreciation to the Federal
Government for constituting the committee to look
into the demand, adding that NLC Leadership in
the country will not sleep over the issue.
